Privacy Policy

How we look after your personal data.

Who we are

Raw Africa Tours (Raw Africa Photography Tours) is run by Jason Donovan, who is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can contact us about anything in it at [email protected].

What we collect and why

We only collect what we need to answer your enquiry, plan your trip and keep the site working.

  • Enquiries: when you use the contact form we receive your name, email address, message and any group size, dates and interests you choose to give. We use these to reply to you and to plan your tour. We also send you a confirmation email.
  • Emails and WhatsApp messages: if you write to us directly, we keep the correspondence so that we can help you. WhatsApp messages are also handled by WhatsApp under its own privacy policy.
  • Visitor statistics: we count page visits without cookies. For each visit we record the page, the site you came from, any campaign tags in the link, your country, and your browser, operating system and device type. Instead of storing your IP address we store a scrambled code made from it, which changes every day, so we cannot recognise you from one day to the next.
  • Security: to stop spam and abuse of the contact form, we keep a record of the IP address used to send each request for no more than 48 hours.

Cookies

We set one cookie, rat_cookie_consent, to remember your choice in the cookie banner. It lasts for a year.

If you accept cookies, we may also use Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies to measure how the site is used, with IP anonymisation switched on. If you decline, Google Analytics is not loaded and our own visitor statistics are switched off too. To change your choice, delete the cookies for rawafricatours.com in your browser and the banner will appear again.

Our legal basis

We handle enquiries so that we can respond to you and take steps towards a booking at your request. Our visitor statistics and security records rely on our legitimate interest in running and protecting the site. Google Analytics relies on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. We use these service providers, who handle data on our behalf:

  • Vercel, which hosts this website.
  • Resend, which sends the enquiry and confirmation emails.
  • Cloudflare, which manages our domain and forwards email sent to [email protected].
  • Google, which provides our email inbox and, if you accept cookies, Google Analytics.
  • Supabase, which stores our visitor statistics and security records.

International transfers

Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, they rely on recognised safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries and correspondence for up to two years after our last contact, unless you book a tour, in which case we keep booking records for as long as the law requires. Security records are deleted after 48 hours. Visitor statistics contain no names, email addresses or IP addresses.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your personal data, or ask us to correct or delete it, to restrict how we use it, or to send it to someone else. You can also object to how we use it. Email [email protected] and we will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update this page and the date below.
