Guide

Rwanda's two headline experiences in five days

This is the itinerary for travellers with limited time who want the two things Rwanda is famous for: a Big Five safari on the savannah of Akagera, and an hour with a mountain gorilla family on the slopes of the Virunga volcanoes.

We start and finish in Kigali, spend two days in and around Akagera National Park, then cross the country to Musanze at the foot of the volcanoes. Alongside the gorilla trek, there is time for the Musanze lava caves, the local arts and crafts centres, and a day trip to the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.

As with every Raw Africa tour, the pace is deliberate — we don't rush from one sight to the next — and your guide is with you from the moment you land to the moment you leave.
